The Roadworker Programme

The Roadworker Programme is designed to empower underrepresented young people with the skills, confidence and industry insight needed to succeed within film, television and media. It combines structured training, practical production experience and expert mentorship from individuals with both professional and lived experience. Participants gain hands-on learning opportunities, build essential technical and interpersonal skills, and develop the foundational habits and awareness required to thrive in professional environments.

Participants will learn:

  • Foundations and Professional Awareness – They will explore film and media production basics, including workplace etiquette, safety, timing and effective communication.

  • Teamwork and Coordination – They will practice collaboration, coordination, logistics and resourcefulness within real creative projects.

  • Problem-Solving and Resilience – They will develop adaptability and initiative through guided challenges reflecting industry scenarios.

  • Networking and Industry Insight – They will build confidence in communicating with professionals and learn skills to make and maintain meaningful industry connections.

  • Compliance and Documentation – They will be supported in understanding legal, ethical and procedural standards in production, including safeguarding and equality considerations.

Mentorship and work experience
Each participant receives tailored one-to-one and group mentorship from creatives and industry professionals, who guide learners through all stages of development—offering constructive feedback, sharing insider knowledge, and supporting each young person in identifying their own career pathways. Workshops simulate industry workflows, allowing practical experience in planning, communication and production coordination. Collaborative projects enable peer learning and prepare participants to transition confidently into further education, training or employment within the sector.

Showcase and recognition
At programme completion, participants present a portfolio demonstrating their growth in collaboration, communication and creative problem-solving. Their work is celebrated at a public showcase event and shared across community and industry platforms. Each participant is awarded a Roadworks Media Certificate of Achievement, recognising their dedication, resilience and contribution towards fostering a more diverse and inclusive creative sector.
